The Chuuk Women’s Council (CWC) is the umbrella organization for forty-one (41) individual women’s organizations that cover the entire State of Chuuk, Federated States of Micronesia (FSM), and has a membership of about 400 women. The CWC serves as an Advocacy Body for promoting gender awareness and equality as well as a resource group for all women in the Chuukese Community. Since it was organized in 1989, CWC has engaged its services for social as well as civic activities throughout Chuukese communities. The CWC is formally organized with by-laws and officers. The council has been conducting trainings on topics including:
  • Small business operation for women
  • Drug abuse prevention for youth
  • Various Health Issues, such as HIV/AIDS, Diabetes, Cancer, and abstinence
  • Conservation and Environmental Issues
  • CWC is currently dedicated to creating the awareness and eventual eradication of diabetes in Chuuk. We are running Diabetes Walk-a- thons and weekly Women’s exercise classes, along with foot care prevention to decrease the number of amputations. The current programs are only taking place in two villages on Weno. We hope to further expand our endeavors to four other targeted islands within in the Chuuk lagoon and several other villages on Weno.
